What is CORLAB?

February 16, 2009

CORLAB is essentially a place, a facility, that hopes to develop a “clubhouse” atmosphere for KIPCUG members and its guests. Everyone, the public included, is invited to stop by, chat, and have a cup of coffee. Please check to see that a Team Captain or Co-Captain is present and has CORLAB open. This can be determined by clicking on either the CORLAB Calendar or CORLAB Wiki links on the right side of the page.

While at CORLAB, hopefully enjoying the atmosphere, you are invited to participate in the outreach effort of KIPCUG, first by learning one or more of the many simple tasks to help accomplish the CORLAB mission. The Team Leaders will help you learn these tasks which will lead to refurbishing computers, retaining usable parts, or recycling the unusable parts.

KIPCUG will then grant the refurbished computers to other non-profit organizations or their clients, persons who need a personal computer and are unable to purchase one.

Some beneficial programs or activities hopefully will also be established for use by KIPCUG members.

Openhouse Was Success, Why?

February 14, 2009

The Saturday CORLAB Clubhouse Open House was attended by JohnH, BillB, JimT, CarolynD, MarkM, and BobS and BeverlyS. A lively discussion on SIGs and KIPCUG ensued. Other than the SIG meeting there little attendance why claim a success? It pushed the CORLAB volunteers to prepare for the event, and in the process much was accomplished. TomS and BobK completed four lab benches, the new door installation is progressing with the help of RichardJ, the streetside sign frame is ready for concrete when the weather warms and is braced to hold the sign until then thanks to RobertD, the sign itself has been designed (what a feat in itself – thanks StanB & RobbieG) and should return from the sign maker any day, and AnnS & TomD have started Equipment and Item Tagging and Trancking. And KIPCUG has some big eaters – most of the pulled pork BBQ is gone; if not eaten, some will make future meals at home. From expressions of support many more would have attended, except for the weather. So “come on down” when the weather permits. Some deserts are left over and one of these days we will have coffee.
